Chain Plying Ball (pt 2)
A chain plying ball is a brilliant way to carefully create a chain, keeping colors together before you start actually plying. I did this during the Tour de Fleece this year and have the yarn featured over on Instagram.

Queen Stage(s) TDF 2024

Over the years, the Queen Stage of the Tour de France has evolved. Historically, this was the single hardest day for cyclists, however, this year, there were actually two (possibly three) Queen stages! For spinners participating in the Tour de Fleece, this is GREAT news! Wear those crowns any day you successfully complete a really tough challenge! I cracked on this one, that's for sure! This vi...

Distaffs, Project Bags, & DIY Spinning Cloths!
you always have fantastic information. and always new things to show. never seen that ball befor and i binched on many videos.....
As always, a great video. (Wish I were nearer to you, I have 2 mint plants you would love - Mojito Mint, and Ginger Mint.)
Very interesting. I didn't realize until your other plying ball video that you use an actual ball in the center. Thank you for sharing.
I hate plying. I wonder if this technique will make it more pleasant. I can't wait to try it.
@@wycohibito ohhh my goodness, I do too! Let me know if this helps make it more enjoyable!
I’m soooo glad to see you back!!!
Amazing wonderful spinning😊
I would love to try a great wheel, as well as other wheels in general. I have a Kromski Sonata, and my husband insists I only need one wheel. He says I should be able to do everything I want with one wheel, and all spinning wheels are the same. The Sonata is my first wheel, and it has some good traits, but the double treadle makes me spin too fast sometimes, which results in too much twist in some areas. What do you think? Do you agree with my husband?
@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR well, I have a Sonata, and it's my dream wheel. That being said, it's nice to have some variety, although my great wheel is more a novelty wheel than one I spin on regularly, and my other wheels have some weird quirks. I honestly use my spindles more than my wheels, and those are things you can't have enough of!
Your yarn came out so pretty. I never thought I'd use an art yarn, but this one is really tempting.
Love ur spindle collection 🎉🎉and the fiber is beautiful
Thank you for posting! I have some yarn I can do this with.
Thank you so much for showing the process in a slow fashion. I’m saving this video to my spinning playlist for my current spin.
This is a great idea! I want to ply 3 turtles from my Turkish spindle, and this will be a nice way to tame them for plying! Thank you!
I want to try a great wheel. One of the museums locally has one I can try but I need to oil it and put on a drive band.
@@wycohibito chime back in and let me know how it goes! I love my great wheel! It's like support spinning just a little different! 😍
@@TheSipnSpin will do.
I want to create this yarn. It's on my list. Thanks for demo.
Have talked or are you able to talk more about your magnetic bowl?
@Thefrenchcrafter I thought I had a short over on IG, but I can't find it! 🤔 I turn nearly all my spinning bowls into magnet bowls using these (they're strong, but the adhesive is easily removable: MIKEDE 20 www.amazon.com/dp/B07B8PWRJ1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Did you get that bobbin wobble fixed? That would make me crazy.
I DID! It spins perfectly now!
@@TheSipnSpin how did you fix it?
@MABrody I just switched bobbins- 😆 that one was missing a little plastic end piece.
Estou procurando como fazer um um fuso dese seu pra aprender usar e mas fácil de fiar que pode fiar sentada obrigado por compartilhar
Support spindles can be made with a variety of different objects, however, they will likely not be balanced (just adding that because balanced spindles are easier to spin), I did a found object video on how to make your own support spindles. You really just need a sharpened stick and some kind of whorl (clay, bead, cd, toy wheel, etc...)
I love it! I need to set up something like that!
I have 4 lollipops from way back when they were the in thing to collect in the spindle community. I loved the things. Mine have a different hook though. Mine have the pigtail hook.
This will give you a laugh. My husband has started worrying when he hears your voice coming from my computer because he knows he is going to hear me say...."oh cool I didn't know about that supplier." He knows it means I have gone down a rabbit hole that will result in something new coming home. LOL
😊 Sorry, not sorry? 😂 There are some really wonderful spindle makers making spindles right now! Ohhhh, you've given me a lovely idea for my next magazine issue! Thank you!
@@TheSipnSpin Glad to be of service :) Actually you have made me dig through my box and find the first spindle I ever got about 20 years ago. It was a beautiful bit of art but I never could figure out how to spin on it. I got a funny feeling it might just be a support spindle not a drop spindle. LOL Back then I was a brand new spinner teaching herself. OOOOOPS
Ur collection of spindles always amazes me
Spectacular 🎉❤
Do you have a tour de fleece cocktail for 2024?
For the Tour de Fleece, I typically enjoy wines and cocktails that focus on regions cyclists riding the Tour de France go through. This year's are all on the calendar I put together ❤️😊
OH WOW!!!! What a great idea!!! Getting a pair of handy wool combs for $13 and a bit of work! Surprisingly easy to find on Amazon, metal pick combs. What a genius!!!!! Thank you 🙏
You are welcome! I love finding ways to make the tools I need! I also designed a travel hackle using a dog comb, metal binder clip, and mini paddle; also all things you can get on Amazon!
Where can we get the magazine?

As always very enjoyable and informative
I only now realised it's also 100 different spindles! What a beautiful flock to have, wish someday mine can be as fancy as yours :)
Have enjoyed all of this,I hope you did,any plans for all of the yarn?
Thank you! I do have plans for the yarn! A weaving and a knitting project are what I'm thinking.
Amazingly beautiful always ❤❤❤❤
So gorgeous! Everyone of them!
I've just bought one of this type of spindle as I was curious when I saw it advertised. Thanks for your demonstration, very clear.
Love the spindle spotlights. In one, you mentioned something about your preferred way to spin with a spindle is to never really let go of the spindle/ let it drop far from your hand, and draft with the other hand using a distaff I think. I want to learn something like this with a belt distaff. Would you do a video on this? Thanks for the videos.
This is a great idea! Thank you for the suggestion! I'll get started on this!
Leave it up to you, to find the perfect bag. And the perfect accessories. You’re a perfect wonder. Love watching your videos. Thank you so much
🤭awww thank you🥰
That’s a lot of SPs, my friend! 😮
I love this video, although I can't say that it's exactly 101-level (for me). I know NOTHING about spinning and there was a lot of terminology that I was not familiar with. Do you have a pre-101 video that explains such basic terminology? I've been harvesting cotton in Mexico and want to spin it and make something (no idea what!). Sounds like I've set myself up for a big challenge by starting with cotton but it is the fiber that presented itself to me, so here I am.
Thank you! I've always wanted to spin cotton from Mexico! Many, many spinners love cotton, and once you get the drafting rhythm it's really no different from any other fiber. Sadly, I don't really have a cotton 101 video because there are so many already available. I will look into putting one together though! I like the idea of a spotlight that just explains all the spinning terms a new spinner will need to get started!
Hello! I am a new subscriber and I am wanting to learn to spin, would you recommend the nano 2 as a good learner e spinner? Or, should I just wait until the new eew 6.1 comes out? I will be attending a spinning class in June 2024 but I really don’t want to wait that long if I don’t have to. What are your thoughts?
Hello! Thank you for subscribing, I really appreciate it! 🥰. I would say if you want to dive in and start exploring, go for the nano 2! If you feel like you've outgrown it after you take the class and spin with it for a while, you could always consider selling it and upgrading to the 6.1.
That’s really cool to watch! I spin yarn on s spinning wheel mostly. I’ve had trouble getting a handle on my drop spindle. And I know that is a supported spindle.
I do love my wheels, but spindles are so much easier to travel with! When I teach my intro to spinning class, I have students use a bowl with their drop spindle. Sometimes, just having that bit of spindle support during the learning really helps!
Is that a Kromski Sonata?
Yes, it's one of my favorite wheels! 😍
Have you used other types of fiber on the Navajo spindle? What kind would you recommend?
I have! It's a pretty versatile support spindle that likes the longer staple length fibers. So any longer wool would work well. I'm sure there are spinners who have spun plant fibers, but I really feel like there are better tools for that. Here's another episode I did where I talk more about this style of spindle ua-cam.com/video/0BE1gZHQRzY/v-deo.htmlsi=aWdukFGn1tqAFfT7
Thanks for demonstrating this spindle and explaining the various cotton types u prefer😊
You know I loved this one! 🎉
Yes, girl! 😮
Nice spindle, never thought of using a Turkish spindle as a supported spindle. Will have to try this.
That’s going to be gorgeous 😍
So beautiful!
Thank you so much for this series. Hugely appreciated. Lots of information clearly demonstrated. It has helped me to decide which style of spindle i might like to try and review spinning techniques.
Thank you so much for this series! I've learned about new-to-me spindles (I've just ordered a dealgan, because I love the design), and look forward to more. I've also enjoyed the cat video bombs (and found it fun that your kitty matches your drink in this video).
The Estonian and other vintage spindles of that time were spun in- hand.
They were! You're absolutely correct.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I just purchased my first supported spindle and your recommendations helped. I would love to see a video on building a cop on a supported spindle.
Great suggestion! There are many different ways to build cops on the spindle; I'll see what I can put together!
This was great! Very clear instructions and visual too! What a relief to be able to see everything!😃
I have a nano and I can't get it to take on will spins but will not take on
I'm so sorry you're experiencing this! The first nano does have some quirks that were worked out with the nano 2, but take up seems to be the most common problem. The Facebook page has tons of helpful suggestions, but in my experience, treating these little machines like a spindle rather than a spinning wheel works pretty well. You need to draft quickly and feed it onto the bobbin rather than waiting for it to pull the single onto the bobbin.
